Hanne Skjelbred

Viola

Hanne Moe Skjelbred (born 1984) is a Norwegian violist based in Oslo with extensive international experience as a chamber musician and orchestral player. She studied at leading institutions in Oslo, Stockholm, and Berlin, working with renowned teachers such as Lars Anders Tomter.

Skjelbred has held prominent orchestral roles, including Principal Viola at the Gothenburg Opera (2017–2020), and has performed as guest principal with major Nordic and European orchestras. Since 2020, she has been part of the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra’s Musician Collective. An active chamber musician, she has been a member of several ensembles. Her performances span major festivals and venues worldwide, including Wigmore Hall and Carnegie Hall. Recent highlights include a tour of major halls in South Korea, such as Lotte Concert Hall in Soul, as well as a performance at Teatro Carlo Felice in Genova with a string sextet from the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra in 2025.

She has premiered contemporary works, collaborated with leading composers, and appeared in broadcasts across Europe and beyond. In addition to performing, she held a teaching position in viola at the University of Gothenburg between 2019 and 2023.
