Alexandros Giovanos

Critically acclaimed by the German press (Der Tagesspiegel, Berliner Zeitung, and Kulturradio Berlin) as one of the most active and renowned solo percussionists of his generation in the Berlin contemporary music scene, Alexandros Giovanos has performed under the baton of distinguished conductors including Sir Simon Rattle, Vladimir Jurowski, Craig Leon, and Max Renne. He is a frequent collaborator with the Karajan-Akademie of the Berliner Philharmoniker, Staatskapelle Berlin, Berliner Symphoniker, Neubrandenburger Philharmonie, Berliner Camerata, Kammerakademie Potsdam, and the Echo Ensemble for New Music. In his native Greece and Cyprus, he regularly performs with virtually every major orchestra, including the Athens State Orchestra, Athens Camerata, ERT Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of Colours, the Thessaloniki State Orchestra, and the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra.
A dedicated champion of new music, Alexandros has appeared at prestigious international festivals such as Intonations (Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festival), Infektion! (Staatsoper Berlin), Ultraschall Berlin, Berlin Atonal, Klangwerkstatt, Unerhörte Musik, Berlin Art Week, Kontakte, the Athens & Epidaurus Festival, the Israel Festival, and the Saronic Chamber Music Festival, among many others.
He is a founding member of the Opera Lab Berlin ensemble and has been the resident percussionist of the Leondari Chamber Music Ensemble since 2014. As a recording artist, he has collaborated with the Ensemble United Berlin and KNM Berlin, tracking albums in world-renowned spaces such as Teldex Studio Berlin, Emil Berliner Studios, and WDR Cologne.
Born in Athens, Greece, Alexandros won numerous competitions and graduated at the top of his class from the Athens Conservatory. He later earned his Master’s degree with the highest honors from the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, supported by a scholarship from the Onassis Foundation. There, he studied under the guidance of Professor Biao Li, Rainer Seegers (Berliner Philharmoniker), and Franz Schindlbeck (Berliner Philharmoniker). As an educator, Alexandros continues to instruct young talent at the International Summer Academy of Corfu, the Cyprus International Percussion Academy, and the Free Waldorf School Prenzlauer Berg in Berlin.
